Cooking with Citrus Wood Smokin’ Wood Chips

In the same way as any other type of wood chip, you should load your smoker box with the chips and place it over smouldering coals or on a burner if you are using a gas grill. Once the box has heated up, the chips will begin to smoke and flavour the meat. Upon feeling that your meat has received enough smoke, or if more chips are required, you may remove the box with tongs.

Wrapping the chips in foil is another option if you do not own a smoker box. You can use the foil like a smoker box by poking some holes in it. By making holes in the foil, the smoke will escape and flavour it.

Uses of Citrus Wood Smokin’ Wood Chips

It is recommended to pair citrus wood with white meats that have a delicate flavour. In addition to pork chops, citrus wood is also suitable for milder cuts of pork. Any dish that is prepared on the stovetop using a citrus marinade will pair well with orange wood.

The use of citrus wood for fish is also possible. A subtle citrus flavour from burning orange goes very well with salmon steaks.

Smoking poultry with citrus wood is possible, whether you’re smoking a whole chicken or just a turkey breast. Maximise the flavour of the meat by marinating or rubbing it with a citrus-based marinade.

FAQs

The common uses of citrus wood, other than for smoking, are archery bows, carvings, turned objects and fishing rods. Citrus wood should not be mistaken for lemon wood which is not used in woodworking applications.

Smoke production will be limited or nonexistent if there is no moisture in the wood. In order to work effectively, you need to purchase wood chips that have a certain amount of moisture. There is a good chance that kiln-dried chips are too dry to produce smoke vapour.
